"Celebrate what you want to see more of." It is good to find occasions to celebrate. But there is much more to celebrate than holidays and birthdays. I can find something to celebrate each day. Celebrate life, celebrate living and enjoy the journey. Sometimes when I celebrate, it can be a quiet, private moment. Like when I enjoy the sunshine on a beautiful Spring morning or watch my Labs running down the hill after their tennis balls.
But this also reminds me that there are other celebrations that are not so quiet. Celebrations that are like fireworks! That is what our writing celebration will be like. We chose the date for the 3rd writing celebration in my class. Writing personal essays has been a difficult job but now we are approaching that important part of our journey where we can see the finish line. We passed the bend in the road, that point where we thought we would never see the end and how exciting it is to find that we are really going to make it. Wow! What a reason to celebrate. We're tired, we're frazzled but we will make it because it is important for us to finish. So how will we celebrate? What will we look like when we get to that finish line?
We will share our joy with friends, mentors and invited guests. We will put our best foot forward. Our writing will look beautiful and so will we. We will dress up and we will dress our writing up too! We will give our writing partners a pen to write thoughtful comments to others with. We will read our writing to a friend from another class.
There are so many reasons to celebrate. This is just one. But what a good reason it is.
Learning to live the writerly life!
