Happy New Year!

I was thinking that a good way to start the year would be to post a story about "firsts". I have lots of memories of 'first times' that I did something as I am sure you do too! Remembering the first time I rode a two wheeler, first day at kindergarten, my first piano recital, my first dog, and the list could go on and on. I recounted this story of a first time to my fourth graders several months ago but only recently found the precious minutes to write it. Plane trips will do that! So on our last trip to visit Steve and John I spent the return flight, writing this story. With all the holiday interruptions, snow delays and cancellations, our second writing celebration had to be postponed until the first week of the new year. Now I feel really good about how this piece that I modeled for the children turned out! So maybe all of you who read this will be inspired to think of those first times you have had over the years and perhaps write about them! Here's to a new year and many more stories to write.

"We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives, not looking for flaws, but for potential."Ellen Goodman
