Dedicated to all my friends with many thanks
Friendship flows like a river.
Their beginnings, a mountain stream
Just a trickle,
Running quick
Running clear
Tentatively weaving
Taking time to grow
Passing through dense forests
Crossing golden meadows
Gurgling, babbling
Softly, sweetly
Lots to say
Lots to do
When a friendship is brand new.
Just like me
Just like you
Other streams join in
The river widens
And so then deepens
This river knows much more
Then when it first began
That simple mountain stream
Now rushing over dams
Watching out for obstacles
Staying steady,
A heavy rain can make it muddy
The river’s strength will clear it
What Winter cold may freeze it
The breath of Spring will thaw
The river keeps on flowing
Understanding what is past
Remembering where its been
And how far it still can go
Still lots to do
Still lots to say
A friendship that keeps growing
A friendship that keeps flowing
A friendship like a river.
Just like me
Just like you
