It was one year ago today that I spotted the Blue Heron on the pond. Not that it was unusual to see her, but that particular October day, it was different. It was on that day, after our strange encounter with the heron, that we scattered Lisle's ashes on the pond. She waited quietly, watching until we were done, before lifting into the Fall morning on her powerful wings.
It was that same kind of day today, exactly a year later, that she stood silently where the stream enters the pond near the lower gate. We watched her and she watched us. When we first moved here, the Heron seemed to me to be that constant spirit of our sweet Molly, returning on particular days that seemed to hold some significance. Last year, it seemed to be a reminder for us to let Lisle's spirit fly free. The posting one year ago, tells the story.
Perhaps today, she has returned to let us know that another special dog has now flown free with the others. Whatever the reason, we will never forget all our forever dogs.
Fly free, our furry family. Continue to watch over us. We will find comfort in your presence.
