The Beginning of Forever

Your spirit touches my life
I hear the tale you tell
Of tangled streams and muddy paws
Of flying leaps to pink pool floats
And fresh dug holes in lush green lawns
A chewed up shoe,
A pair of glasses too.
a chomped on stair, a favorite pen
Stolen socks and bathroom trash
You race and then I chase,
But when you lay your head upon my lap
Your eyes gaze up and search my face
And as I search that intense stare
I know the tale you’ve told
“It’s me. I’m here. I never left.”
I wonder that it may be only my imagaination?
A belief born from desire to make it true.
I understand the tale you’ve told,
Your zest for life which then changed mine
Through all the years and all my tears,
Your spirit never leaves,
My forever dog.
